An upcoming ecologically themed Christmas fair meant thinking about more denim upcycling ideas to decorate a booth. What better way to say Christmas than a tree and an advent calendar?! Both of these projects were made under a time pressure but ended up being satisfying and hitting the eco mark.
The denim tree was quite fun to make! It also used up a lot of odd pieces from jeans whose denim had been salvaged for larger projects, including jean seams, hems and opened elasticized waistbands. It is simply a craft paper cone with the many denim strips glued horizontally to it. Next time will be a more solid cone and perhaps even one that could be washed.
The advent calendar turned out much more time consuming and larger than I had imagined. Twenty-four jean pockets, paint and some rickrack were the 3 materials. Without any stencils available, the painting of the numbers took more time than sewing the pockets on. In the end, it was a nice visual reminder of the season countdown.
Merry Christmas and may 2023 be filled with lots of joy, success, prosperity and denim upcycling!
