Another Generation Has Arrived, and….

A new (and first!) grandchild has left me pondering the future…. If children’s lives are so different from their parents’, imagine how the next generation will be!  Our parents would be amazed to see the rapid access to information and communication. And with that, unfortunately, there often comes misinformation and miscommunication.

On the other hand, the next generation can quickly organize and make dramatic changes faster than an older generation. So much depends on education, including values and media literacy. Global warming is an example. Those who refuse to be educated or be open-minded are doomed to continue the status quo of denial. Those dire consequences will be most felt by the next generation and many of them are wising up to this reality.

Rather than despair, I perhaps naively believe that each person has something to contribute. I, for one, believe that my minuscule contribution to the awareness of fast fashion and its damages will help. Not only do we each have something to contribute to make the future better, but a responsibility as well.

Welcome, new grandchild, and may your generation do a better job than we are doing!
