Not Always from Scratch

This is how one morning began. Lots of coffee, but not enough energy to start a big project. An oversized denim work shirt and a few odd pieces of denim. Hmmmm, what about cutting away parts of the shirt and then adding back?

And so began a fun, half-day of cutting and sewing that resulted in a noragi jacket-kimono type garment.

First the extremities were cut away:

Next, there needed to be denim (or other fabric) additions to make a new and unique garment. Four areas were cut away, but 3 areas will be added to.

The basic garment is now ready to be added to.

The two sleeves, the length across the bottom and the long sash around the neck and front were now needed. This was the fun and creative part!

Zig-zag, top-stitching and reinforcements were needed for strength and for the inside seams to not fray.

And finally, pockets were added, because they make it comfortable and more practical!

And finally this project is complete, with one very, very happy wearer of this new creation!
