Quilts From Before

The quilts that were favorites and often requested were what I call the “Go to College Quilt.” They actually began as a “running” quilt for a niece who had accumulated many T-shirts from marathons, running clubs, and athletic teams. Rather than donate them, I asked my sister to give them to me for a surprise quilt. As high school graduation gifts were often needed for my nieces, nephews and children, this became a fun and nostalgic gift for dorm rooms.

The first quilt I ever made was a baby quilt for my niece. I have made a few since then, including one for HER baby. How I wish I had saved photos. Anyway, here are a few photos (sorry for poor quality), including crib, play, and moving out of the crib.

Probably the oddest quilt I ever made was from hundreds of men’s, pure silk neckties! Yes, this venture took decades of accumulating pure silk ties, cleaning them, deconstructing them, ironing them, cutting and sewing them. And as only cruel fate would have, it is suddenly missing and I have no photos as proof. I do have, however, a photo of some of the many labels.

Other odd quilts that I still have photos of include this motley crew:
