Yes, I confess that I dream more than I accomplish. However, I am sure that I want to move forward and know that it will take time. So, step one is to create a realistic look at a vision and mission statement.
Vision
To empower women sewists to find financial freedom while also preserving the environment.
Mission
To create employment for low-income women sewists in Nicaragua by creating unique and beautiful upcycled denim garments.
This purpose-driven brand began as a one-woman project to address the textile waste problem resulting from fast fashion and overproduction, while honoring traditional clothing conservation practices, such as Patchwork and Sashiko. It has grown to include local women sewists earning a just wage. Newly employed sewists use preloved clothing and deadstock denim to create slow fashion and timeless garments. Clothing textiles are carefully curated, then, using a remanufacturing process, they are deconstructed and upcycled into beautiful and unique one-of-a-kind pieces. This process takes place in and around Managua, Nicaragua’s capital, thus diverting textiles headed to landfills, providing needed employment, and producing sustainable garments.
And so, join me as I try to grow this project!
